Set in 2033, Quicksand tells the story of Jason, a husband and father, fighting for his life in the Mediterranean Sea. The film amplifies tendencies within present-day Europe and sets it in the near future where the social, economic and environmental situation has continued its downward spiral. It is against this backdrop that Jason decides to pay people smugglers to help them leave Europe in the hope of starting a new life ‘somewhere else’.

تدور أحداث الفيلم عام 2033 ويروي قصة الزوج والأب جيسون الذي يصارع للبقاء في البحر الأبيض المتوسط، ويستعرض التوجهات والميول في أوروبا في الوقت الحاضر ويسردها خلال المستقبل القريب الذي يشهد استمرار دوامة الانحدار في الوضع البيئي والاقتصادي والاجتماعي، فيقرر جيسون جرّاء ذلك أن يدفع لمهربي البشر لمساعدتهم على مغادرة أوروبا أملاً في بدء حياة جديدة "في مكان آخر".
